About the project

TheÌýFrank DiMino Casa Italiana aims to preserve the oral historyÌýand traditions of the Italian-American Community of Rochester. Our goal is to document and preserve traditions handed down through the generations as well as digitize historical files for ease of access for both the community and the university. This project has been moving forward since fall 2022, a collaboration of Nazareth'sÌýFrank DiMino Casa ItalianaÌýand theÌýCenter for Public HistoryÌý(CPH) and led by the CPH director, Professor Timothy Kneeland, and the Casa Italiana director, Dr. Joëlle Carota. This effort started in 2015 as a pilot project.

Our oral history interns Ashley Jenkins, Kate Paulus, Rheanna Barney, Jordyn Bagley, and Adriano Siesto presented this poster at Nazareth's Creative Activity and Research Showcase (CARS) in April 2024, showcasing their research on the history, customs, and language of the Italian American community in Rochester, NY.
