A Young Scholar

Dwyer arrived at Nazareth ready to get the most out of his education, but that didn鈥檛 mean he had a clear picture of what his experience would look like. The Young Scholars Program creates a supportive environment for high-achieving students like Dwyer with financial need. He has embraced the program鈥檚 mentorship and support both for classes and everyday life.

鈥淏eing a Young Scholar means being backed by a network and representing more than just myself. Whether it鈥檚 improving grades or applying for an internship, I have support from my program peers and mentors to get where I want to go.鈥

The Center for Life鈥檚 Work

Nazareth's CFLW helped Dwyer identify internships and leadership experiences that have broadened the scope of his professional ambitions in the world of finance. 听

"The most meaningful part of my experience is the people that I get to meet and their willingness to assist me with reaching my goals. By working with career coaches and counselors, I have been able to pursue opportunities that give me a taste of my career options after college, and I have been able to talk to individuals in my field of study about the possible paths I can take."

Future aspirations

鈥淚 plan to pursue听a career in finance, and it would be awesome to be a CEO or CFO for a Fortune 500 company someday. But really, I鈥檓 not locked into any one job. I want to keep an open mind and see what happens.鈥

Update

Dwyer went on to work in accounting and auditing roles in the New York City area, including becoming manager of legal compliance in risk management for Mastercard.

Advice

鈥淲hen choosing a major, don鈥檛 be stuck on one program but study for the work you want to be doing. Most people don鈥檛 have a straight path in life. Keep an open mind and look for new and different experiences.鈥

Networking

Dwyer said that using his college network has led to meaningful experiences. Mentors in the Young Scholars Program connected Dwyer with resources that led to a corporate finance internship at Johnson & Johnson in New Jersey.

鈥淚 am the intern project manager, and I coordinate testing around the world. I am responsible for project statuses and troubleshooting when necessary. I鈥檓 learning so much and constantly being challenged.鈥
