Dr. Jared Chase is the music director and conductor of Nazareth's Wind Symphony and Chamber Winds, teaches courses in conducting, rehearsal techniques, and music education, as well as performs as a trumpet player in the . He is also the Director of Wind Studies at Nazareth and administers the entire band program, which includes the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Night Flyers Band, Pep Band, Chamber Winds, Brass Choir, Saxophone Ensemble, Horn Choir, Trombone Choir, and 11 applied faculty in the wind and brass area.
Under his direction, the Nazareth Wind Symphony has been invited to perform at the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) Eastern Division, New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), and New York State Band Directors Association (NYSBDA) conferences. He also serves as the president-elect of the Eastern Division.
As a professional conductor, he has conducted numerous professional ensembles and organizations. He is the music director for and First Presbyterian Church of Pittsford and a regular conductor for Rochester Lyric Opera. During the 2016-2017 season, he conducted a premiere performance of John Musto鈥檚 comic opera 聽and Sondheim鈥檚 You鈥檙e Gonna Love Tomorrow. As music director of the New York State Ballet he led a collaboration between the Rochester Oratorio Society, New York State Ballet, and Rochester Lyric Opera in dramatic performances of Bizet鈥檚 Carmen and Orff鈥檚 Carmina Burana, Mozart鈥檚 Requiem and Marriage of Figaro, as well as the annual Nutcracker performances. In addition he has has guest conducted the the , and the .
In 2024, he was named聽music director of the Penfield Symphony Orchestra.
In 2013, he became a Visiting Assistant Professor of Ensembles and Conducting at the prestigious Eastman School of Music where he conducted the Eastman Wind Ensemble and Wind Orchestra.
Dr. Chase has taught courses at the Eastman School of Music, Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Bethany College, Sinclair Community College, Central State University and grades 4-12 band and choir in the public schools of Ohio. As a passionate and committed music educator he is in regular demand as a guest conductor for honor bands, adjudicator for festivals, and clinicians for bands of all ages throughout the country and Canada.
Dr. Chase received degrees in music education and trumpet performance from the where he studied trumpet with Terry Sawchuk and conducting with Allan McMurray and Robert Carnochan. He received his Master of Music in trumpet performance and Doctorate of Musical Arts in wind conducting from the (CCM). At CCM he studied wind conducting with Terence Milligan and Rodney Winther as well as choral conducting with Steven Coker and Brett Scott. His trumpet studies were with Phil Collins (Principal Trumpet of Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra) and Alan Siebert. While at CCM, he also served as music director of the Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble, and music director of First Presbyterian Church of Fort Thomas, Kentucky. He founded the (a professional brass ensemble) which was invited to perform for the opening ceremony of the 14th International (World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles) Conference in 2009 and still performs concerts around Cincinnati, OH.
As a trumpeter he continues to be an active freelance performer and has performed with the Rochester Chamber Orchestra, , , , , , , , , Cincinnati Vocal Arts Ensemble, the , Boulder Broadway Company, Colorado Light Opera, and the . While attending CCM he performed as principal trumpet of the nationally acclaimed CCM Chamber Players, the CCM Wind Symphony, Philharmonia Orchestra, and as a member of the Cincinnati Brass Quintet.
Beyond that, Dr. Chase is an avid cyclist and triathlete who lives in Fairport with his wife, Diana (band director at Canandaigua Academy), and two sons, Jackson and Bodie.
